Sussman Vein | The Right Doctor For Your Vein Care

Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. Although these very fine veins are connected with the larger venous system, they are not essential to normal function. A number of factors contribute to the development of spider veins including heredity, pregnancy, hormonal shifts and occupations or activities that require prolonged standing or sitting.

It is estimated that they affect nearly half of adult women in the United States. Men also get spider veins. Some patients seek treatment of spider veins because they do not like their appearance. Others seek medical treatment as spider veins can cause symptoms such as aching and throbbing.

For optimum cosmetic results, Dr. Sussman uses magnification during spider vein sclerotherapy. In addition, she uses a Veinlite which shines light below the spider veins to help visualize the "feeding veins". If the veins feeding the spider veins are not addressed cosmetic results will likely not be ideal or long lasting. We offer injections with a tiny needle for spider veins -
THE GOLD STANDARD.

Laser can be used to treat the smallest spider veins following sclerotherapy, but is not as effective as a first-line treatment for spider veins on the legs. Also, many patients report extreme discomfort during laser treatment. Feeder veins or “blue veins" are also known as reticular veins. They are slightly deeper and larger than surface spider veins. Dr. Sussman injects both the feeding veins to the spider veins as well as the spider veins themselves.

This ensures superior results as the source of the spider vein is treated rather than the spider vein alone. Each spider vein cluster is rapidly and expertly assessed as to which main 'branch' will be injected. Typically there is a larger vein connecting the smaller veins that is chosen as the injection site. This avoids multiple unnecessary injections into all the spider vein branches.

The technique is very accurate, meticulous and practically painless. Technique, patience and expertise set Dr. Sussman apart from others.
